Lafayette's neighborhoods
Old Town Lafayette, around Public Road, has early-twentieth-century homes with steep, simple roofs and the usual layers of past re-roofs. Around Waneka Lake and along Baseline Road the housing dates to the seventies and eighties. Indian Peaks and the subdivisions on the east side of town were built in the nineties and after, with larger homes and complex rooflines.
Each area presents its own roofing patterns: deck repairs in the old core, ventilation problems in the mid-era homes, and hail in the valleys of the newer ones.
Hail and wind in Lafayette
Lafayette is in the same hail corridor as the rest of the US 36 towns and has taken heavy hits in recent years. The open land to the east and north lets storms build before they arrive. West winds off the foothills are strong but a bit less severe than in Louisville and Superior, which sit closer to the mountains.
Roofs on the east side of town, facing the open plains, tend to show the most hail wear.

Lafayette homeowners planning to stay long-term sometimes choose standing-seam metal, which sheds snow well and handles hail without the granule loss shingles suffer. Wildfire awareness has grown since the Marshall Fire, and Class A rated assemblies are easy to specify.
Ventilation improvements pay off on the mid-era homes, where attic intake was often an afterthought.

Lafayette is a close-knit town and word travels fast. We keep job sites tidy, respect the narrow streets of Old Town, and sweep for nails before we leave.
