Wind
Downslope winds off the foothills can gust past hurricane strength along the US 36 corridor, and Broomfield gets its share. Wind lifts shingles whose seal strips never bonded or have aged out, tears off ridge caps, and peels back the edges of roofs facing west and north. Once one shingle goes, the ones around it follow on the next gust.
Wind damage is usually visible from the ground: missing tabs, shingles in the yard, exposed underlayment. It needs quick attention because the opening only gets bigger.
Hail
Hail bruises and fractures shingles, dents metal, and cracks skylights. Damage is often invisible from the driveway, which is why a walk on the roof after any real hailstorm is worth doing even if the roof looks fine. Hail season in Broomfield runs from roughly May through August, with June usually the worst month.
Heavy snow and ice
Late-season snow in March and April is wet and heavy. It loads flat and low-slope roofs, bends gutters, and when it melts and refreezes it builds ice dams at the eaves that push water up under the shingles. Damage from snow shows up as leaks near exterior walls and along the eaves, sometimes weeks after the storm.
Ice-dam leaks are a symptom of attic heat loss. We fix the leak and then talk about ventilation and insulation so it does not repeat.
Emergency response
When a storm opens a roof we come out to secure it. That means a tarp anchored to framing with battens, lapped over the ridge so wind cannot lift it, and covering enough area that the next rain runs off rather than under. Interior water is a secondary problem we can help you triage with photos for your insurer.
After a major regional storm we answer requests in the order they come in and give honest timelines.
Permanent repairs and documentation
Once the weather clears, we return to inspect the full roof, not just the obvious damage, because a storm that tears off shingles on one slope has usually loosened others. Repairs are photographed before and after. If the damage is extensive enough for a claim, the documentation is ready for the adjuster.
Storm repairs done properly last. Storm repairs done in a rush from a ladder do not, and they are a large share of the leaks we are called to fix the following year.
